Unlike most Salida hotels, the Mountain Goat Lodge is located on 19 acres of rolling pastures with our resident goats roaming the meadows that provides a beautiful and peaceful getaway. The Lodge rests at the foot of the famous Sawatch Mountain Range in central Colorado, just 8 miles from historic downtown district of Salida.
Known as the Heart of the Rockies, Salida is a major recreational center located just east of the Continental Divide along the Arkansas River. Salida sits at an elevation of 7083 feet and has a population of over 5,500. Salida has grown from a railroad and mining town into a respected art community and significant historical district.
Today the most prominent business in Salida is tourism and can satisfy almost any outdoor adventure preference. Salida is home to the annual FIBArk kayak race, one of the oldest whitewater races in North America. Salida's downtown historic district has enjoyed a rebirth of development over the past few years.
Salida has been ranked among the best small art towns in the United States and was recently named as one of the 'Best American Dream Towns' by Outside Magazine. Although flanked by majestic 14,000-foot snow-capped peaks, Salida enjoys a surprisingly mild climate that some refer to as “The Banana Belt.”
Colorado Springs is just two hours away, and Denver International Airport is three hours away. Salida is also home to the newly built, state-of-the-art, Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center.
